More AWesome photography websites!
I like this website because the main page uses frames that look like photographs like my website.
http://www.jessicahilltout.com/index2.php
Again I like this because the boarder of the main box on the homepage looks like the frame of a photo. And its got some sweet photoshopping.

I like the slide show on this website and yet again it has a slightly photo like boarder around it.

pointless neon signs!
I was walking by the hard rock cafe this morning noticed there sign outside that said something along the lines of 'no drugs or nuclear weapons on the premises' And it just annoyed me. There trying to make serious point about having drugs on the premises and then put in nuclear weapons to make it more fun and not seem strict. Its such a contraction. They just want to have the idea of drugs associated with the cafe to make it seem sexy and rock and roll. Yet its a serious point.

Inanimate Objects
Naomi likes the idea of giving inanimate objects personality's.
This is Glen he works as an accountant and he enjoys reading the paper on a Sunday morning. On the weekends he likes to surf and is planning a surfing trip this summer.
He's favourite colour is blue and he likes to watch action films.
He is not a fan of burned toast or people who skip him in queues.

Funny Concept Photos
Stumble Upon is a website that I use a lot and while searching it I found this awesome website, 'What Stormtroopers do on there day off'.
It Reminded me of some of the photos I took in my portfolio for a project which involved a day in the live of a student and a pair of legs. It got me thinking of the sort of photos I could use if i were going to do a photography website.

NOTCOT.com
I like the doodle style drawings down the each side of the page (which are also links). I think the drawings are supposed to be of tags or labels because the website has a lot about design on it. But I think they look more like Polaroid photo. This got me thinking because I was thinking of doing maybe a photo website and the image of a Polaroid photo as a link could be good.
Moving Lights!
Recently I was at a stand up gig and it was a little crazy ye know there was all these flashing lights and shit. And eventually I got bored waiting so I took out my camera and took some fun photos.
I really liked the lines the light makes so I experimented some more only with street lamps at night time. The street lights are brighter so i kinda got more of an atmospheric look plus it was raining :O which gave the photos nice splashes and stuffs.
I have been searching around online for more inspiration and found some more awesome photos such as the 'light Graffiti' which I find really interesting. I particularly like the pac man ones, I founD on this website

People And Identity
There are many ways in which people identify themselves. One way in which people do this that I find interesting is through tattooing.
Somethings I wonder if people really think about the way tribes use tattooing to show what tribe they are in and their rank etc. When I see someone say from this culture with a tribal tattoo I often wonder if they really, understand what their tattoo means and what do people in tribes think of this 'trend' as such, because in a way these people are kinda stealing the tribes identity. Often people in tribes get tattoos after something they've done and I wonder if they knew people were just walking around with similar tattoos after not having done anything, would they be offended in some way and feel like it took away from the tattoos meaning.
Websites Identity
What gives a website its identity. People have say passports etc to identify themselves so what is a websites passport as such?
I think at the moment a lot of the social networking sites have 'passports' for example tweeter and facebook have icons that anyone using the Internet will recognise.
These websites have their icons on many other sites connecting them etc which is also like advertising in a way. Someone with no interest in social networking sites or be a member of one, will still see these icons on other website and recognise them.
I think this is an awesome way to have a successful website. It show that the look and the theme of the website is just as important as the content. The content could be amazing but if it isn't layed out well or have an attractive look people won't be interested and no one will ever know about the website.

IDENTITY
I thought for my first post on the theme of identity I would look at artists who are easily recognised by either their art work or their look. So I'm going to look at Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali respectively.
Andy Warhol's prints are easily identifiable by almost anyone even people with little or no interest in art. He picked products from company's with well established identities. This I guess also took the elitism away from art and made people who ordinarily wouldn't look at art look at art.
I think although Warhol's work is easily identifiable he found it much harder to identify himself. Even going so far as to dress in drag. I feel in a lot of his self portraits he creates a feeling of mysterious artistness.
I like the image Salvador Dali created for himself. His moustache I feel gives him that crazy artist look. Which I think maybe he grew because he expects that people will expect him to look like because of the nature of his art work. I think his eyes have that crazy surreal cartoon look to them and that he plays this up in a lot of photos of himself. Sometimes I think it would have been far more surreal if he had looked really ordinary and slightly boring and then maybe people would have been surprised to see the work he created. But that's just me. I guess with out his 'look' he probably wouldn't have got the commercial success that he got.
